Two Hot Beverages

I have a cold since 2 weeks.  I’m so tired of it.  A friend at work tried oil of oregano and made us try it.  It was great.  My throat was aching and with it, it was better.  So I had to buy a bottle of this fabulous product.  It’s natural.  And expensive.  But it’s worth it.  The next day, I was going back to buy 2 more bottles.  One for my boyfriend and one for my mother as a gift.  Two days ago, my son was coughing a lot while sleeping so I decided to put 2 drops of oil of oregano with maybe only 4 ounces of pineapple juice.  He drank it.  But the last sip was kind of strong.  He made a funny face like it was disgusting.  After that, he didn’t cough for the remaining night.

This week I tried 2 hot beverages.  They’re so yummy that I wanted to share with you.

The first one is good to soothe a coughs, colds and indigestion.

The taste is great and it’s very comforting.

Soothes Coughs, Colds & Indigestion
1 serving

  • 8 ounces pineapple juice
  • 2 teaspoons honey
  • 1/4 teaspoon grated fresh ginger
  1. Combine 8 ounces of pineapple juice, 2 teaspoons of honey and ginger heat over low flame till warm.
  2. Sit back under a blanket and sip for soothing relief.


This one has a very good taste if you like the taste of molasses.  I made it yesterday and drank it in only 2 minutes.  It was too good.  This morning I made another one instead of coffee.  This is full of iron.  So this is great!

Molasses – Iron Builder
1 serving

  • 1 tablespoon blackstrap molasses (I used regular molasses)
  • 1 cup hot water or 1 cup milk (I used whole milk)
  1. Mix blackstrap molasses in a cup of hot water or milk.





Is it time for a drink?

I wanted a martini but with blood orange juice.  I found one of Food Network.  It’s really good and potent.  But next time I may add more blood orange juice.  I was too lazy to take a photo.  But it’s red and beautiful.

Blood Orange Martini

  • 4 ounces vodka
  • 1/2 ounce triple sec or flavored orange liqueur
  • 2 ounces blood orange juice
  • 2 blood orange slices

In a martini shaker combine all ingredients except the orange slices with a generous amount of ice. Shake vigorously for a few seconds. Strain the libation from the ice into a martini glass. Garnish with the orange slices.


You like margarita and martini?  They you’ll probably like this one.  It’s very yummy.

Grapefruit Margarita Martini

  • juice of 1/2 large grapefruit (I used Oasis pink grapefruit juice but didn’t measure, probably between 1-2 ounce)
  • juice of 1 lime
  • 1/2 teaspoon superfine sugar, plus more for rimming glass
  • 1 1/2 ounces of silver tequila
  • 1 ounce orange-flavored liqueur

Place superfine sugar, grapefruit and lime juice in cocktail shaker and swirl until sugar mostly dissolves. Pour in tequila, liqueur and at least 4-6 cubes of ice. Shake vigorously for 30 seconds. Strain in sugar rimmed martini glass and garnish with lime wedge or grapefruit section.

You need a yummy cure for PMS?

Then try this drink.  I tell you I would really need one now.  I’m so tired.  I wanted to be reasonable tonight but I guess I’ll have at least one drink.

Earlier today, I told my friend that I had my SMS (text messages on cell phones) when I meant PMS.  And in French it’s SPM.  So you can see why I said the wrong thing LOL

PMS Cure-All! (Cocktail)

1 drink

  • 1 ounce Frangelico
  • 1 ounce butterscotch schnapps
  • 1/2 ounce Godiva milk chocolate liqueur
  • 1/2 ounce amarula liqueur
  • 1/2 ounce milk, more if preferred (I added more milk cause it was too sweet, adjust it to your taste)
  1. Stir first 5 ingredients in your favorite large, parfait-style wine glass.
  2. Add as much ice that will fit, about 6 ice wedges.

Eat better with 10in10

On Monday, I began to do the 10in10.  It’s ten weeks to healthy in 2010.   It’s never too late to sign it.  My goal is to lose weight, eat better, exercise more, try new recipes that are low-calories, low-fat.  My boyfriend is also doing it with me, not that he has a lot to lose.  He wants to lose around 15-20 lbs.  We’re counting the calories with Calorie Count.  I love this site.  With Twitter, with the Hashtag #10in10 we can help and encourage ourselves.  We’re a really great team 🙂  I’m proud to be part of it.  It helps me a lot from the temptations.

This week, this is what I made :

I made this soup a few time.  It’s one of my favorite.  It’s filling enough (for me).  I like the spicyness to the added Sambal Oelek.  It’s easy to do in almost 30 minutes (maybe less for you, cause I’m slow when it’s time to cook.)

If you live in Canada and watch Food Network, you probably saw Ricardo and Friends.  That’s his recipe.

Lentil Soup From Ricardo
4 servings

  • 2 onions, chopped finely
  • 2 garlic cloves, chopped finely
  • 1/2 teaspoon curry powder (I used turmeric)
  • 1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil
  • 2 carrots, peeled, diced finely
  • 5 cups chicken stock or vegetable stock (I used low fat low sodium chicken stock)
  • 3/4 cup red lentil, rinsed
  • hot pepper paste or harissa (I used Sambal Oelek and 2 tablespoon, it was spicy a lot but we liked it)
  • salt and pepper (I didn’t add salt)
  1. In a casserole, brown onions, garlic and curi powder or cumin in oil.
  2. Add carrots and sauté 1 minute.
  3. Add remaining ingredients.
  4. Bring to boil, cover and let simmer slowly 10 minutes.
  5. Adjust seasoning.


Mushroom Barley Soup from Two Peas And Their Pod

This soup was a big hit for me, my boyfriend and my son.  When my son likes something, it’s like we won the jack-pot LOL

Since I had only 1/2 cup of pearl barley, I added 1/2 cup of red lentil, rinsed at the last step when I had to add the cooked barley for the remaining 15 minutes.  That way, the lentils had time to cook.  It was perfect.


Mushroom Couscous With Morocan Flavors

4-6 serving but I guess it’s more 4

  • 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil (I used only 1 tablespoon)
  • 1 lb fresh mushrooms, sliced
  • 1 small onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 garlic clove, minced (big surprise here, cause I used 2. I don’t really like garlic LOL)
  • 1 cup beef broth (I used low sodium low fat beef broth)
  • 3/4-1 teaspoon cumin (I used 3/4 teaspoon and I should have use less, the taste is too proeminent for us)
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground coriander (I omitted it)
  • 1/4 teaspoon turmeric
  • 1/8 teaspoon saffron thread
  • salt & pepper, to taste
  • 3/4 cup instant couscous, uncooked
  1. Heat oil over medium heat then add mushrooms, onion, & garlic, saute till tender.
  2. Pour in the broth & spices the simmer for 3 minutes. Remove from the heat & stir in the couscous.
  3. Let stand, covered, for 10 minutes then fluff with a fork. Serve alone or as a side dish.

We ate this couscous with steamed asparagus.  We didn’t like this recipe of couscous.  We don’t have the same taste, so that’s why I’m posting the recipe here.  This is healthy and maybe some of you will be tempted to try it.  If you like cumin and maroccan flavors, then I guess it’s for you.


We didn’t eat only that.  We ate full of veggies.  For me, that’s great cause I don’t really like veggies.  I ate plain cucumbers.  I brough banana and clementines to work and I actually ate them.  Usually I bring fruits to work and I never eat them and on Friday, I bring them back home so my son can eat them LOL  I’m proud of what I ate this week.

Also I drank lots of water.  Probably also because I have a cold and I need it for my throat.  I’ve been sick 2 days at home.

Here is a drink I made last week and it’s really good.  It can be healthy if you find unsweetened pear juice.

Stoli Spiced Pear Martini

  • 1 1/2 ounces vodka
  • 1 ounce pear juice
  • 1 squeeze of fresh lime
  • 1 lime, wheel garnish
  • grated nutmeg
  1. Add vodka, pear juice, and squeeze of fresh lime to a cocktail shaker filled with ice.
  2. Shake and serve up.
  3. Garnish with a lime wheel and grated nutmeg.

It feels great…

… to be on vacation!  Yesterday I made a Baileys Mint Chocolate Martini.  I added a bit more vodka and it was so yummy.  I love mint and chocolate together.  I made the mistake to buy chocolate with mint.  The box is almost empty.

Now I’m eating breakfast : ham, swiss cheese and egg on a burger bun.  I grilled it on my panini grill.  And I’m course I’m having my strong coffee.  Coffee has to be strong.

After we’re going out shopping again.  We have a few gifts to buy.  We’re going to see Santa Claus and we hope that our son will want to sit on him to take a photo.
